Hi! It's nice to "meet you". My name is Alexis Corey, I moved to Portland a few years ago, after visiting and falling in love with the natural beauty, and the friendly people here :) ! I live in the NE area of Portland, and will be servicing throughout the Portland area. Also, just so you know, I am the proud parent of 1 incredibly sweet dog and 2 feisty and independent cats.
I have owned and operated this business since 2013, and have loved every minute of it! I love what I do, and I treat each and every pet as if they were my own. I've been able to save the lives of a few of my clients by letting their parents know when I've found a lump while staying overnight with their pets, or when being able to spend extended periods of time with them. I just want you to know that the health and well being of your pet is a true priority. I will be the best second set of eyes your pet has ever known!
Previously in my life I've held several different positions, but none that brought me as much joy as working with pets each day. Just so you have a little background info about me, here's what I've been up to: in my early 20's I worked as an Emergency Medical Technician. Eventually, I attended the University of Southern California and graduated with honors with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. After graduating, I spent a decade of my life working in Social Work; and specifically the final 5 of those years in Foster Care. Having found peace and solace throughout my lifetime with animals, I searched for and was able to find an incredible no-kill cat sanctuary (Heaven On Earth Society For Animals @ www.heavenlypets.org) to volunteer my time with, and eventually became one of the providers of medication support to many of their resident cats, several nights per week. In late 2012 early 2013, I was able to remain at home and spend what turned out to be the final year of the life of my best friend and four legged companion, Charlie. The chance to be able to be with my furry child during his last year on this earth made me realize that I was happiest caring for him and my other pets. I had already pet sat for friends and neighbors on numerous occasions for well over 10 years, and had successfully provided care for numerous special needs cats at the cat sanctuary where I'd volunteered. All of those times I found rewarding, and was happy to spend time with pets who needed love, care, medication and nurturing. With that in mind, I began to do some research and soon decided to build a full-time business in late 2013.
So, to recap, I am trained in Pet CPR & First Aid. If there are any medical issues (or heaven forbid), an accident of any sort while I am caring for your pets, they are in good hands. Additionally, many of the pets that I've owned in my life are or have been "special needs" pets. This means that I am very confident with medicating both cats and dogs, I work well under pressure, and I am very familiar with administering IV (subcutaneous) fluids, as well as insulin shots (and understand how important it is to stay on a strict 12 hr. schedule). I also understand that you may simply want someone to spend a significant amount of time just visiting with your baby while you are away, I will be more than happy to hang with your kiddo, rubbing their belly, scratching just the right spot behind the ears or under their chin, throwing their favorite toy, or playing with that laser toy they just can't do without!
Lastly, because I myself am security conscious and understand that it is unnerving to have a virtual stranger in your home for the first time, I am fully insured, bonded, & background verified (this means that I have a clean criminal history, and no substance abuse issues). Ultimately, what I would like to convey is that aside from my love of animals, I decided to start this business because when I wanted to go away on vacation, there was no one that I felt safe enough to leave my pets with given their extensive medical needs and difficult food regimens. I felt that I could provide this service safely, effectively, and at a reasonable cost to other pet parents who found themselves in similar situations. Please call me, let me come and meet with you and your pet(s), and I am certain that you will feel comfortable enough to go on vacation, on your business trip, or for a long days work with peace of mind. I am an honest, trustworthy and reliable person who absolutely loves what I do! Your pet(s) will be in loving, caring hands while you are away (and so will your home).
